APA uses the (Author, Date) style for in-text citations. If you are using a direct quotation, add the page number as well. Examples can be found below:
Generic Format:
(Author, Year)
Author (year) states that......
In a [year] study, Author wrote.....
Author states that ........(year).
One - two authors:
(Wegener & Petty, 1994)
Three - five authors:
(Kernis, Cornell, Sun, Berry, & Harlow, 1993)
In subsequent locations, you may use (Kernis et al., 1993).
Six or more authors:
(Harris et al., 2001) - use first author's name
Unknown author:
("Using APA," 2001)
Use the first small phrase of title. Books titles are italicized and underlined; put article titles and chapters in quotations. Unlike in the reference list, this title phrase has the major words capitalized.
Direct quotation:
(Author, Date, p. ##)
(Robbins, 1997, p.145)
Use the correct format for the number of authors above, but append the page number after the year.
