About the Library

General Guidelines

The Edward and Barbara Netter Library welcomes gifts of books and materials that fall within the scope of its collecting activities, that will enhance the strengths of its collections, and that support Quinnipiac University students and faculty in the curriculum. Gifts of materials are accepted with the understanding that, once received, they are owned by Quinnipiac University. The Edward and Barbara Netter Library reserves the right to determine their retention, location, cataloging treatment and other considerations related to their use or disposition.

  • Materials with restrictions on access or use will generally not be accepted; in some cases, materials of great research value with clearly stated restrictions of limited duration will be considered. Photocopies or scans of manuscript or other original materials are generally not accepted.

  • The Edward and Barbara Netter Library reserves the right to duplicate, digitize, and make copies for the purposes of preservation, regardless of the copyright status of the item(s).

  • The Edward and Barbara Netter Library is unable to collect items where resources do not allow us to meet the collection’s space requirements or preservation needs.

Please read and follow the guidelines below.

Donation Process

We will consider materials (print and non-print) for addition to the Quinnipiac collection. If we feel that we are not the best recipient for your gift, we will gladly offer suggestions for alternative placement and/or put items on our free book shelf for students and faculty, and will later recycle it if there is no interest.

Gifting procedure and information for prospective donors:

  • Contact Matthew Wilcox, matthew.wilcox@qu.edu, Director, Edward and Barbara Netter Library.
  • If the collection is very large, please provide lists (author, title, publication year) of the materials that you wish to donate.
  • Damaged books will not be accepted. Please do not bring books that have water damage into the library. Materials relating to the history of Quinnipiac with damage other than water damage will be evaluated and possibly accepted.
  • Once the library has agreed to accept your materials you must:
    • Arrange for delivery to the library.
    • Sign a deed of transfer for archival material.

Please Note:

  • The library cannot guarantee that accepted materials will be added to the collection.
  • No university library staff are permitted to make a valuation of the donated items.
