The Netter Library has a print copy in the library on the reference shelf.

The library also has online access to the full text of the manual.

Chapter 3 contains specific information regarding referencing.

RefWorks

RefWorks is a web-based application that allows you to create and manage personal bibliographic databases by importing references from text files or online databases.

You can then use these references in writing papers; RefWorks will format the citations you insert into a paper and automatically generate a bibliography for that paper. The library has a guide with more information.

You need to cite when you:

  • Use a direct quotation, even if it is in quotation marks.
  • Use facts that are not common knowledge.
  • Paraphrase the author’s idea(s).
  • Have changed some of the author’s words (i.e., used synonyms).
  • Use the key words or phrases from the author.
  • Mention the author’s name in your sentence.
  • Have written a sentence that mostly consists of your own thoughts, but you have made a reference to another author’s idea.

The AMA Bear

Citing your sources is advantageous.

Using citations will help preserve your:

Honesty: When you fail to give credit for ideas that are not your own, your readers will assume that the ideas are yours. This is misleading.

Academic Integrity: It will protect your academic career from negative consequences.

Credibility: The citations will show your readers that your information came from reliable sources.

Time: When you need to refer back to a source it will be easy to find.
