Review Types

This guide will help you get started with determining which type of review is right for you and your research project.

Tools for Reporting Results

When considering what to record for your results, the PRISMA Diagram provides a list of items to consider.

  • Study characteristics: for each study,, provide characteristics for which data was extracted -- study size, PICOS, follow-up period etc., as well as their accompanying citations
  • Study selection: provide the number of studies screened, assessed for eligibility, and, ultimately included in the review. Be sure to include reasons for any exclusions at each stage -- this can be done with the PRISMA Diagram
  • Risk of bias within studies: present data on risk of bias of each study and any outcome level assessment, if available
  • Risk of bias across studies: present results of any assessment of risk of bias across included studies
  • Results of individual studies: include all outcomes considered and present for each study. Include a simple summary data for each featured intervention group, effect estimates, and confidence intervals
  • Synthesis of results: present results of any meta-analysis performed, including confidence intervals and measures of consistency
  • Additional analysis: provide results of any additional analyses -- sensitivity or subgroup analyses, meta-regression etc

Alongside these items, consider the information that is relevant to your project.
