New RefWorks has created a feature that helps identify any components that might be missing from the references in your database. This feature is visible when you adjust your viewing your options from Normal to Citation View. In Citation View, your references will be rearranged according to the formatting rules for your chosen citation style. Fields that are missing information will be highlighted in one of two colors:
This feature can be used when viewing all of your references at once, or when viewing references inside a particular folder.
Be sure to review the format of your selected citation style. The Library has guides that outline both AMA and APA citation styles.
How to view missing citation information
1. Log into your New RefWorks account
2. You can either select a specific folder or simply view all your references at once.
3. Bring your cursor over to the display options on the top right and select Normal View. A dropdown menu will appear. The third option in will be Citation View.
Note the listed citation style underneath the Citation View option. If it is not the style that you need, or if nothing is there, click the gear icon. The Citation View Settings menu will open. From there, search for the citation style that you need.
4. When you switch to the Citation View, your references will be reformatted into the appropriate layout. Fields that are missing will be highlighted -- see examples below
5. To add in the missing information, click one of the highlighted fields. A side window will appear and you will be able to fill in any of the missing fields.
6. Click Save to finish making the edits.
