Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, & Health Justice Collection
The Netter Library was the recipient of a $2,000 Collection Equity Award from the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 7. The purpose of these awards is to “fund collection development that amplifies diverse voices writing on health/medical topics or that include a health or medical issue as an integral narrative theme.”
The QU Libraries are committed to Quinnipiac's mission "to create a diverse and inclusive community where every member is acknowledged, respected and has the necessary resources to thrive, both individually and together." To this end, we have used the award to expand our collection of books related to the intersections of health, diversity, and equity, with a focus on books with personal narratives of those experiencing marginalization or oppression in our society. We also included titles that provide guidance on advocacy for health equity.
We’d like to thank Dr. Saleh Rahman, the Associate Dean for Equity, Inclusion, & Diversity for the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine for the idea of this collection and assistance in identifying relevant titles, as well as Maureen McCarthy, the Executive Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, for her help navigating the grant process. New titles continue to be added, and have clearly identifiable spine labels.
