Chemistry: Locating Journals

New guide compiled to include both lower and upper level chemistry infromation hosted by the library.

Journal Finder

The Library maintains a collection of periodicals in the sciences and medicine.  These resources are available in a variety of formats:

  • Electronic
  • Print
  • Microfiche
  • Microform

To check the availability of journal articles that are not full text in a database, click on the blue "Q Check for Full Text" while in the database and follow the links.  If that is not an option, please use the Journal Finder which is on the MyQ Arnold Bernhard Library homepage to determine

  1. First, if the journal is part of the collection and,
  2. Second, in what format the particular year of interest is found.

All entries that contain "Bernhard..." or "Find a paper copy" mean that you will find the periodical in the library building, whereas all the other entries are electronic links to the database that has the full text of the article.  If the article is unavailable, it can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.

Examples from the Journal Finder

Analytical Chemistry  - an example of an older, peer-reviewed journal (look for the graduation cap icon and the Peer Reviewed label). The library has earlier years in microfilm, a gap from 1965 through 1982, and the later years in microfiche. Microfilm and microfiche are film with miniature images of the journal pages. Librarians will be happy to help you get started with using the readers.
