Library Information and Policies: Interlibrary Loan

To create an Interlibrary Loan Request, click the button below.

ILL Policy

Interlibrary loan is a service that provides all members of the current Quinnipiac community (students, faculty, and staff) access to materials not owned by the University.

Requests should be for materials needed to:

  • complete coursework,
  • support research,
  • or to enhance job performance.

We will not request an item that is already in our collection or on order.

WHAT WE CAN'T GET

The ILL staff will make every effort to fill appropriate requests. Most libraries will not lend the following items, therefore we will not attempt to borrow:

  • Bound volumes or single issues of a journal (pdfs are sent)
  • Textbooks, reference, non-circulating, rare or valuable books
  • Materials for faculty to place on course reserve
  • Dissertations for undergraduates
  • Material from Harvard Business Review (due to licensing limitations from the publisher)
  • Complete e-books (due to licensing limitations from publishers)

It is also becoming more common for libraries not to loan newly published materials so these may be difficult for us to obtain.

COST

There is no cost to you for Interlibrary Loan services.

DELIVERY TIME

Digital copies of articles usually arrive within a few days but might take longer.  You must allow at least one-two weeks for a physical item to be delivered. We cannot guarantee delivery within a specific period of time.

Please be aware that ILL service for students ends two weeks prior to the final day of classes each semester.

RENEWALS

Some libraries allow interlibrary loans to be renewed, others do not. The granting of renewals is up to the lending institution, not us.  If you need a renewal, please call or email the ILL office at least two days before an item is due to inquire about renewing it. Overdue loan material may jeopardize our ability to borrow from other institutions.

Copyright

COPYRIGHT

The Copyright law of the United States (Title 17, US Code) governs this service. Before requesting an Interlibrary Loan, students should discuss their research with a librarian at the Research Desk; our library may be able to provide other resources that will satisfy information needs. We will not request an item that is already in our collection or on order. Remember to check the library catalog before submitting this request.

Distance Learning Students (Online Students)

The Arnold Bernhard Library will assist Distance Learning (Online Students) with any articles that can be delivered electronically to your email account.  Just as you would submit a request for something that we don't own, you can also receive articles that Quinnipiac owns in paper format by filling out an Interlibrary Loan request.  The articles will be delivered to your email account.

Due to time constraints we are unable to borrow physical books or journal articles that are not available as a pdf.  If you need something that is not in our collection and falls into either of these two categories, please visit your local public library and request the item through their Interlibrary Loan Department.  Remember that their delivery times may differ from ours so start your research early.
