For each course, faculty members will need to fill out a course reserves form, which is available either at the Circulation desk or by clicking here.
Please Note: Physical items may circulate as soon as they arrive at the desk, but any material designated for “out-of-Library use” must be used in the Library until completely processed.
If the items you are placing on reserve are part of the Library's collection, our staff will be happy to retrieve them for you.
Books from the circulating collection may be placed on reserve. If the materials you would like placed on reserve are owned by the library, our staff will be happy to retrieve the materials for you. This includes journal articles from our databases that will linked to and placed in e-reserves.
If you are placing personally owned material on reserve, you may either drop it off at the Circulation Desk or you are welcome to send it to us via Campus Mail. Our mail stop is AB-LIB and you may address it to the Reserve Department.
Personal materials will be processed and circulated according to standard reserve procedures. Appropriate stickers and barcodes will be affixed to all materials. While every effort will be made to safeguard personal materials, we recommend that items of value not be placed on reserve.
The Circulation desk staff is happy to place as many items as you need on reserve for your classes, but we ask that you please limit the total number of copies of an individual title to three.
At the beginning of the semester, there is a high volume of reserve material to be processed. Please submit your requests and drop personally owned materials off as early as possible to avoid delays.
When possible, please submit your requests to the Library well in advance of student need. The reserve staff will process most materials within 24-48 hours (Mon-Fri). Material dropped off after 3pm on Friday, and on weekends, will not be processed until the following Monday morning.
At the close of the Fall semester, all materials will be taken off reserve and personal items will be returned to faculty. In the case of an item being needed for both fall and spring semesters, the item will remain on reserve only if this was indicated by the faculty on the reserve form.
At the end of Spring semester, ALL items will be removed from reserve and personal items will be returned to the faculty.
At the end of each Summer session, ALL items will be removed from reserve and personal items will be returned to the faculty.
Unfortunately, there are a few kinds of materials that are not accepted for reserve. These items include but are not limited to the following:
Books and films from other libraries and rental films from places such as video stores or subscription services. These restrictions are governed by copyright laws.
Exams, class assignments and handouts cannot be placed on reserve. The staff cannot be responsible for handing out assignments for students or to serve as a drop-off or pick-up point for tests, papers, etc. We ask that you make these arrangements in your class.
Consumables. These materials are not appropriate for reserve because one of the tenets of fair use is that such use not effect the market value. Consumables include workbooks, exercises, standardized tests and test booklets, answer sheets, etc. Consumables will not be placed on reserve.
Coursepacks. Custom published anthologies prepared for sale through local copy centers and bookstores are not appropriate for reserve because one of the tenets of fair use is that such use not effect the market value. Coursepacks will not be placed on reserve.
