Faculty who have questions about streaming films for their course should contact Public Services Librarian Bob Young, 203-582-3469.
Due to budgetary restrictions it may be necessary at times to limit the number of films that can be ordered and streamed for individual courses. In some cases (for example, popular Hollywood titles) it is possible to access and watch a film via a short term individual rental provided by a streaming platform like iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, etc. There are also free streaming video platforms such as Tubi, Pluto, and the YouTube - Movies & TV channel which provide access to many films and TV shows. While the library cannot cover the cost of individual streaming rentals for students, the cost is usually inexpensive and averages about $3.99 per film.
Below are film sources the library either licenses or searches for free content.
Criterion Pictures is an on-line digital delivery feature film platform with optional subtitles and language choices. If you are a faculty member and you would like the library to license a film, please contact Bob Young.
Digital Campus Films is a streaming service provided by Swank Motion Pictures that allows access to course-assigned feature films and documentaries outside of the classroom. The films available through Digital Campus have been chosen for instructional use by faculty from Swank’s film library, but once uploaded to the database they may be viewed by the entire university community. Only instructors can request to have titles added to the database. Because this service is maintained to support classroom instruction, the films available through Swank will vary from semester to semester, as will the expiration dates for individual titles. Once a film is uploaded to the database it is available for viewing by the entire university community. Faculty who would like to license a film for their courses should contact Public Services Librarian Robert Young. Additional information about Digital Campus is available through the "Digital Campus : Hollywood Feature Films Streamed for QU Courses" library guide.
