Start Early: Remember to put in your article citation and passage right away so that you can give other students enough time to respond.
You must use the suggested articles for each discussion topic. Choosing an outside article without the professor's approval will result in a zero.
Each blog that you respond to, should be from a different article
In the Science 161 Research Guide, under the Locating Articles tab, select one topic and one article.
Please list your discussion blogs as follows:
Type in the Topic
Copy and paste the whole citation: Title, Authors, Name of Journal, Volume, Issue. Year, Pages
Select an excerpt that strikes you from either the abstract, Introduction, summary or conclusion and put it in quotes and cite the authors last names in parenthesis. For example: (Jones)
In each article, remember that you need to read the Abstract and/or Introduction first to understand the objective of the scholarly research and then the Discussion and/or Conclusion section to excerpt your passage.
From the Discussion and /or Conclusions section of the article, which you should select a passage that strikes you about the content of the article from the research findings.
Make sure to react to two other students' passages.
If you see someone already has two people who reacted to their Blog, go to someone else's who doesn’t have other reactions.

Helpful tips: When replying to TWO students from the class, and also when reflecting on your own article, please use the textbook and/or Prof. Collin's lecture notes to help you to pull pertinent information to support your responses and your own perspective on your chosen article. If you are using any of Professor Collin's lecture notes please make sure to cite with(Collins). DO NOT state your own opinion as a subjective statement - use your textbook to support your answers.
Remember to cite the textbook with Author and page reference. If you excerpt a paragraph, remember to place quotation marks around the excerpt.
Remember to cite any statistics or information you use from the books or notes.
If you are using one of the articles make sure to cite the article.
DO NOT
DO NOT simply express your opinions because you will have not learned the facts to answer the assignment. .
Do not state that you "agree" or "disagree" when reacting to another students blog.
Do not use: "I" as a first person when reflecting on your own article and responding to your classmates blog.
DO NOT include web links in place of your scientific article. Weblinks will be graded a 0.
