SCI 161 Nutrition - Cruz: Locating Articles

BLOG - Prof. Cruz

Start Early:  Remember to put in your article citation and passage right away so that you can give other students enough time to respond.

You must use the suggested articles for each discussion topic. Choosing an outside article without the professor's approval will result in a zero.

IF THERE ARE 2 PEOPLE WHO ALREADY PICKED THAT ARTICLE, CHOOSE ANOTHER ARTICLE.

IF YOU SEE SOMEONE ALREADY HAS TWO PEOPLE WHO REACTED TO THEIR BLOG, GO TO SOMEONE ELSE'S WHO DOESN'T HAVE OTHER REACTIONS.

  • In each article, remember that you need to read the Abstract and/or Introduction first to understand the objective of the scholarly research and then the Discussion and/or Conclusion section to excerpt your passage.
  • From the Discussion and /or Conclusions section of the article, which you should select a passage that strikes you about the content of the article from the research findings.
  • Helpful tips:
  • When replying to another students blog, use a different article from your own article.
  • When replying to TWO students from the class, and also when reflecting on your own article, please use the textbook and/or Prof. Cruz's lecture notes to help you to pull pertinent information to support your responses and your own perspective on your chosen article. Do not state that you "agree" or "disagree" when reacting to another students blog.
  • Please remember to cite any statistics or information you use from the textbook or notes.
  • Remember to cite the textbook with Author and Page reference. If you excerpt a paragraph, remember to place quotation marks around the excerpt.

Format: For your Discussion Blog - Important Information

        1. Type in the Topic

        2. Copy and paste the whole citation: Title, Authors, Name of Journal, Volume, Issue. Year, Pages

        3. Select an excerpt that strikes you from either the abstract, Introduction, summary or conclusion and put it in quotes and cite the authors last names in parenthesis.  For example: (Jones)

         4.  Put in some nutritional value from the excerpt. Do not state your own opinion.  You may use your textbook and/or Prof. Cruz's lecture notes to help you to pull pertinent information to support your responses and your own perspective on your chosen article. Please remember to cite any information you use from the textbook or Prof. Cruz's lecture notes.
