Science for Non-Science Majors: Reference

This Library Guide identifies the basic resources to use for assignments in science courses for non-science majors, such as Biology 105 and 106 and all of the Science designated courses, SC 101, SC 102, SC 105, SC 161, etc.

Reference Sources

Please remember that subject-specific reference sources provide background information on topics.  They were written by experts in field and use the terminology or language of that discipline.  They are a great place to begin for a quick introduction to topic.  These resources may include:

  • definitions
  • overviews
  • facts & dates
  • legislation
  • statistics
  • bibliographies 

 

There are many other reference materials that may be helpful and save you time.  Please just ask for suggestions.

Access Science

This is an online encyclopedia covering the sciences and technology.  It is a good starting point if the topic is unfamiliar.
