RefWorks: List of Databases A-M

Overview

The information on this page will assist you in importing citation information from various specific databases.

ABI/INFORM

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Mark records you wish to save by checking them off
  3. Click on  (Above the search results on the right hand side)
  4. Under Citation Export, Click on RefWorks
  5. Under Export/Save, scroll down to the bottom and Click on Continue
  6. Click on Import
  7. Click on Go to Last Imported
  8. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  9. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

Academic Search Complete

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on + icon to right of the article title
  3. Click on Folder View in right margin next to title (just under "Folder has items")
  4. Check box to Select All references
  5. In the right column, click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save. Do not check off remove items from folder after saving
  8. Click on Import
  9. Click on Go to Last Imported
  10. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  11. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

Access Science

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on Title
  3. Click on Cite
  4. In the Download As... section click on the red RIS button.
  5. Open RefWorks
  6. Click +Add from the top left toolbar
  7. Select “Import References
  8. In the “Import from a file” space, drag or select the .ris file into the Import from a file space.
  9. A new window will appear titled Import References.  As long as the .ris file is listed at the top click Import.
  10. On the next page, you will be asked to select your Import options.  Here you can assign your new references to as existing folder is you so wish.  If you do not designate a specific folder, your references will be added to your Not in Folder folder
  11. Click Import to finish the process.
  12. Click Go to Last Imported button.
  13. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  14. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder

ACM Digital Library

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Mark records you wish to save by checking them off
  3. Scroll to top of page, just below Results, select Export Citations 
  4. Select Bibtex and click on the Download citation icon in the bottom right of the window ACM's Download citation icon
  5. You will get a file named acm.bib in your browser’s Download area. Open your Downloads folder to have access to this file for the next steps.

Now in RefWorks

       6. Open  RefWorks

       7. Click +Add from the top left toolbar

       8. Select "Import References"  and browse for and select the saved text file.

      9. RefWorks will ask you what type of file it is. Type ACM in the search bar and select BibTex (ACM Digital Library). Click on Import

      10. Click Go to Last Imported button.

      11. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.

      12.  In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

African American Experience

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on the title of the article
  3. Click on Cite (") in the upper right corner
  4. Click on RefWorks
  5. Click on Import
  6. Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  8. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

America: History & Life

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on + icon to right of the article title 
  3. Click on Folder View in right margin next to title (just under "Folder has items")
  4. Check box to Select All references
  5. In the right column, click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save. Do not check off remove items from folder after saving
  8. Click on Import
  9. Click on Go to Last Imported
  10. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  11. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder

American Indian Experience

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on the title of the article
  3. Click on Cite (") in the upper right corner

American Periodicals

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Mark records you wish to save by checking them off
  3. Click on  (Above the search results on the right hand side)
  4. Under Citation Export, Click on RefWorks

Biography Reference Center

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on Add to Folder
  3. Click on the Folder tab (upper right hand corner)
  4. Check box to Select All  references
  5. Click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save
  8. Click on Import
  9. Click on Go to Last Imported
  10. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  11. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder

CINAHL

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on + icon to right of the article title 
  3. Click on Folder View in right margin next to title (just under "Folder has items")
  4. Check box to Select All references
  5. In the right column, click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save. Do not check off remove items from folder after saving
  8. Click on Import

Cochrane Library

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click the title of the article you wish to import into RefWorks.
  3. Once in the article record, select Cite this Review
  4. On the right side, select Cite this Review
  5. A new window will open: On the top next to Save Citation to: Select RefWorks
  6. Click on Import
  7. Click on Go to Last Imported
  8. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder
  9. In the top row, click on Assign to folder, under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations.  To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

 

CQ Electronic Library

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Open a report of interest
  3. Click on CiteNow! 
  4. Open Export Citation To: menu and click on RefWorks
  5. Click on Import
  6. Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  8. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder

Communication & Mass Media Complete

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on + icon to right of the article title 
  3. Click on Folder View in right margin next to title (just under "Folder has items")
  4. Check box to Select All references
  5. In the right column, click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save. Do not check off remove items from folder after saving
  8. Click on Import
  9. Click on Go to Last Imported
  10. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  11. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder

Daily Life Through History

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on the title of the article
  3. Click on Cite (") in the upper right corner
  4. Click on RefWorks
  5. Click on Import
  6. Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  8. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder

Emerald

You cannot Export to RefWorks.   You will need to type in the title into the Library OneSearch.  Use the instructions from Library OneSearch to Export to RefWorks. 

Library OneSearch:

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click onicon to right of the title 
  3. Go to folder icon on top next to search button 
  4. Click on dropdown under Export To, click on RefWorks
  5. Click on Import
  6. Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  8. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

ERIC (EBSCO)

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on + icon to right of the article title 
  3. Click on Folder View in right margin next to title (just under "Folder has items")
  4. Check box to Select All references
  5. In the right column, click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save. Do not check off remove items from folder after saving
  8. Click on Import
  9. Click on Go to Last Imported
  10. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  11. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

ERIC-From the website (www.eric.ed.gov)

ERIC (Education Resources Information Center)

  •  Due to the new interface ERIC with RefWorks is not available.
    To import citations into RefWorks:
      Copy the article title into the Library OneSearch
     
     Use the instructions from Library OneSearch to Export to RefWorks. 

 

Gale Literature

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on Reference
  3. Click on Cite(") on top bar
  4. Under Export To, select RefWorks
  5. Click on Import
  6. Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  8. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

Gale Virtual Reference Library

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Open a search result essay: essays are moved into RefWorks one at a time
  3. Click on Cite icon the top
  4. Open the Export to: drop down menu and select RefWorks
  5.  Click on Import
  6.  Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  8. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

Import Citation from Google Scholar

1. Click the quotation marks under the entry

 

2. At the bottom of the pop-up, click RefWorks

 

GreenFILE

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on + icon to right of the article title 
  3. Click on Folder View in right margin next to title (just under "Folder has items")
  4. Check box to Select All references
  5. In the right column, click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save. Do not check off remove items from folder after saving
  8. Click on Import
  9. Click on Go to Last Imported
  10. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  11. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

Hartford Courant (1992 - Current issue)

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Mark records you wish to save by checking them off
  3. Click on (Above the search results on the right hand side)
  4. Under Citation Export, Click on RefWorks

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Mark records you wish to save by checking them off
  3. Click on (Above the search results on the right hand side)
  4. Under Citation Export, Click on RefWorks

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Mark records by checking them off (JSTOR requires exporting references page by page)
  3.  On the top of page, click on Cite and select Export to RefWorks
  4.  Click on Import
  5. Click on Go to Last Imported

        6.   Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.

       7. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

Latino American Experience

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on the title of the article
  3. Click on Cite (")  in the upper right corner
  4. Next o Export to: Click on RefWorks
  5. Click on Import
  6. Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click onicon to right of the title 
  3. Go to folder icon on top next to search button 
  4. Click on dropdown under Export To, click on RefWorks
  5. Click on Import
  6. Click on Go to Last Imported
  7. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
  8. In the top row, click on Assign to folder. Under Assign to folder, check off the folder where you want to keep these citations. To start a new folder, select Create at the bottom. Name the folder. You can create a folder as a subfolder of another one if you wish. Click Create folder.

MLA International Bibliography

  1. Conduct a search
  2. Click on + icon to right of the article title
  3. Click on Folder View in right margin next to title (just under "Folder has items")
  4. Check box to Select All references
  5. In the right column, click on page icon with green arrow to Export
  6. Select Direct Export to RefWorks
  7. Click on Save. Do not check off remove items from folder after saving
  8. Click on Import
  9. Click on Go to Last Imported
  10. Check off the citations you want to put in a folder.
