Introduction to Legal Resources

Legal citations can be tricky. In most cases, the APA defers to The Blue Book, a reference for legal citations. Below, you will find information on writing basic legal citations from the APA Style Blog. For other formats, consult The Blue Book.

Statutes/Regulations

Generic:

Name of the Statute, Title number Source § Section number(s) (Year).

If you are citing a range of section numbers, use two §§ squiggley things.

Example:

Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, 29 U.S.C. §§ 2601–2654 (2006).
