First Year Writing: How to find Databases in my Major

Where do I start?

The first thing many students ask when they have a paper assigned to them is, "How do I know where to start looking for resources?"  The best thing to do is to ask a librarian but that's not always possible.  So, if you have to start on your own, then you've come to the right place.

A-Z list

STEP 1:

Near the middle of the library's homepage, over on the right side you will see a box that looks like this.  Click on the bottom entry, "A-Z Databases".

All subjects

STEP 2:

Now you will see a dropdown in the upper left portion of the screen that says All Subjects.  If you click on that you will see a list of majors/subjects.  Choose the one that most closely applies to your topic.

Best bets

STEP 3:

Once you choose your subject, you will see a yellow box with databases.  These were selected by the library liaison to that particular department. This is the photo that you see on the right. Our liaisons work with your professors and have selected these as the best places to start your research.  Other databases that could work for this subject are listed alphabetically below.
